I am extremely friendly and approachable and have many interests. I really enjoy music- especially singing and am learning to play the ukulele. Reading is a passion of mine as well as going for long walks and enjoying the outdoors.
As a working mother of four, I appreciate the impact busy lives have on families and that at times extra support is needed to give young people the confidence to flourish and also families to take some pressure from them. Education is key and I firmly believe that every effort needs to be made to give every child the education they deserve.
I have over 20 years experience teaching in various state schools in and around Glasgow. I have taught at all levels and embrace new initiatives as they develop-as well as using tried and tested methods to increase the confidence and the competence of the young people I work with. I have undertaken training with Glasgow Dyslexia and use many of their strategies in my teaching- helping all the learners. I am a current Challenge Leader of Learning within my school- whereby by I am using an wide variety of strategies and techniques in literacy to help raise attainment for the whole school- this also involves working with families on a weekly basis. Finally, I have extensive knowledge of numeracy and am able to bring a deeper understanding to young people in this area too.
I feel that one-to-one tutoring is of a great benefit to young people, their families and ultimately for the school. My experience is that children are more comfortable away from the noises and distractions of classroom life. Working with a tutor can encourage more detailed explanation of learning experiences, and also can provide quicker growth because the pace suits the child and their ability. One to one tutoring means that the tutor can use a variety of approaches to match the child and their style of learning- which ultimately will increase confidence and competence at home and at school.
