I have recently taken early retirement, after 25 years in the classroom. I am passionate about language learning and want to offer private tuition in order to share my knowledge with others. I have a BA Hons. degree in French and French studies and have also a good knowledge of Spanish and German. I have traveled widely and spent time in French, Spanish and German schools learning about their systems and teaching methods. I am considered an excellent teacher and was very proud that two of my students picked up grade 9s this summer.
I have taught French in three different secondary schools in the North East area over the last 25 years. (Head of department for the last 14) I have taught KS 3 Spanish for last five years. I also taught German at KS 3, but not recently as German seems to be disappearing from many school ‘s curriculum. I am an experienced marker/examiner for AQA and EDEXCEL (Pearson’s) I have also experience of teaching adult beginners, both one to one and in a class group.
I begin by finding my student’s current level and build on from there. Every lesson builds on knowledge gained in the lesson before. For KS3 and 4 students I put a strong emphasis on understanding grammar as this is essential for future study and for being able to say exactly what you want to say. I give equal coverage of the four skills listening, speaking, reading and writing and use as much target language as my student is comfortable with. I prefer to teach in my own home in Ingleby Barwick, but am prepared to travel so long as travel time and fuel are paid.
