As a current Head of English at a London Secondary school, I am an experienced and passionate English teacher with a skill for imparting knowledge in a clear and concise way. I enjoy empowering students to be the best learners they can be and achieve their full potential. I believe that all students can succeed if given the correct support and guidance.

Tutoring Experience

I have been Head of an Outstanding English department for the past ten years and a qualified English teacher for the past fifteen. During that time the GCSE results that I have achieved have placed our department (and school) in the top 2% of schools nationally. In order to have this continued success I have been an excellent communicator and team leader- building successful relationships with teachers and parents/carers to ensure every child gets the very best English education. I design and implement an English curriculum which supports and challenges students, ensuring that they are exposed to a wide range of Literature to apply and hone their skills. I have worked with students of differing abilities and needs and have a wealth of experience and knowledge of the curriculum to ensure that students' individual needs are planned for so that they can make the maximum amount of progress.

Tutoring Approach

My wealth of experience means that I am proficient at teaching students with a range of abilities and needs. Students leave my English lessons with a clear sense of what they have learnt and how to apply this independently. I am skilled at using assessment for learning strategies; regularly checking students' work and progress, which ensures that my teaching is constantly adapting to meet the needs of all learners. I believe that confidence is a significant factor in students reaching their full potential- as well as teaching students the necessary skills, I ensure that students feel confident in their own abilities and are subsequently able to apply this knowledge.
