I am a Scottish Painter and I grew up in Morayshire and I am currently studying Fine Art Painting Conservation MA at Northumbria University. Although based in Newcastle, I frequently return to London where it is possible to arrange block holiday lessons if required.
After attending Gordonstoun School with a music scholarship, I completed my Fine Art Painting BA (Hons) degree at Gray's School of Art, Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen in 2016.
I then moved to London in September 2016 to study on the Royal Drawing School's Postgraduate Diploma which is a full scholarship for 15 months- The Drawing Year. I worked full time in a specialist pigment and artist materials store, L. Cornelissen & Son and have experience working with a broad range of art materials in both work and my practice.
After graduating in 2016 I have exhibited my paintings in group shows in Aberdeen, Glasgow and London and my drawings, with Christies’s, London and at the Royal Drawing School in 2017.
I am responsible, patient and passionate as an individual; I have been a Volunteer Childline Counsellor (2015-2019) in Aberdeen and in London, gaining first-hand experience in the use of therapeutic arts. I have experience of the fact that drawing plays an important role in young people’s lives whilst coping with mental health issues. I’m an advocate of the listening service which NSPCC provides, and I have regularly taken part in fundraising through running marathons and selling my artwork (£3593.00 funds raised to date, PB 3hrs 31mins). I also have a recent DBS certificate which I am able to provide a copy of, upon request.
I am a children's tutor with the Royal Drawing School, working with young artist clubs between the ages of 10 -18 years old in museums and galleries across London since September 2017. I taught each Saturday in the National Gallery and have lots of experience working/ drawing in other collections such as the Natural History Museum, the British Museum, the V&A and Victoria Miro gallery.
I have a background in life drawing and practical painting tuition; I am excited about the potential for artists to learn to draw from observation- from nature, people and artworks in museums.
I have been working with two 11 year old private students on weekends- both who have been preparing for scholarships to enter brilliant schools. We have had great success in both applications, one received a prestigious scholarship and the other subsequently, has had a huge growth in confidence learning about preparing an all round portfolio. We have worked in Parks and gardens in West London, museums and at home too- helping with school projects. I am open to try lots of different materials and offer a range of ways to draw- but also I understand it is important to encourage particular skills as the young person feels appropriate. i,e graphite work, drawing outside, mono-printing, painting, collage, clay work etc.
