Online Maths Teacher

I have recently completed my PhD in theoretical astrophysics at the University of Leicester, where I was studying accretion discs around black holes. Prior to this, I was studying planetary and space physics at Aberystwyth University, where I spent my final six months in Svalbard (Norway), studying the aurora borealis (northern lights). In my spare time, I enjoy tennis, hiking, and travelling.

Tutoring Experience

I have experience of teaching mathematics from primary school to university level. As a PhD student at the University of Leicester, I assisted in laboratory demonstrations and maths seminars for the first and second year students and in my final year, I assisted a masters student in their dissertation project. I am currently a volunteer tutor with Action Tutoring, a group which offers educational support in Mathematics to secondary and primary school children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Tutoring Approach

I am a patient and enthusiastic tutor with a passion for mathematics and the natural sciences. My tutoring is focused upon GCSE and A-level mathematics (Edexcel, OCR & AQA). Mathematics requires abstract thinking, which is a skill that can be challenging to teach in a classroom setting. My approach to tutoring the subject is to tailor the lessons to the students own thought processes by exploring their understand of mathematical concepts. This can lead to a more intuitive grasp of the subject, which increases both their confidence and interest in mathematics. The lessons can cover the core curriculum or be focused upon exam style questions and past papers.
