I'm here to help you succeed in all types of academic writing:
I can supervise on any and all aspects of a critical or creative project, including: ideas and development, planning and structuring, argumentation, quotations and references, grammar, spelling and punctuation, formatting, and expression.
I'm currently based in Norwich and offer face-to-face tuition there, but I also tutor online (via Removed Meet or by email, your choice) to anywhere.
Academic writing is an essential skill which you need to succeed in further and higher education. I provide in-depth feedback on your work in progress, motivation and tailored guidance to improve your grades. Whether you're a native English speaker or whether English is your second language, I will improve your academic writing and give you the skills you need to succeed in your course.
Our first meeting is free, this is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for me to understand your learning goals and individual needs.
Total of 13 years as an educator
2 years Lecturing in Creative Writing at The University of Cumbria
2 years Tutoring in English Literature at The University of East Anglia
9 years total freelance experience teaching for organisations such as The Poetry School and The National Centre for Writing.
I currently support ESOL students for City College Norwich and previously at Norfolk County Council Adult Learning, including students with special needs.
I will take you through the ideas and development phases of any academic or creative project, I will then assist you with the planning, writing and revision process, building your writing skills as we go. If needed, I provide structures, prompts, and sample questions to guide your academic or creative writing, and get you started on the right foot. Submit your writing to me for revision and I will provide comprehensive notes and corrections. We will then discuss these notes in our tutorial meetings to help you with your re-drafting. Through regular meetings and feedback, I will help you develop your academic and/or creative writing to be the best it can be.
My approach is goal orientated and student centred. Every learner is different and has their own personal goals. I take time to understand what each learner wants and needs from their tutoring, what their strengths and weakness are, what their learning style or personal barriers might be. I tailor my teaching to each student. While I'm very thorough and I give specific, practical and detailed advice, I'm also understanding, sensitive and patient. I take the pressure out of academic writing, build your confidence and make writing a fun experience.
