A LEVEL RESULTS DAY 2022: On average, my students improved by 2 grades during the course of my tuition. The most marked improvement came from a student who received a U in her year 12 mock and was predicted a D by her teacher. After receiving her result, she contacted me for tuition and went on to achieve a B in her June 2022 A Level Business exams - only 3 marks off an A!

In 2020, I graduated from Durham University with First Class Honours in Law and have since become a tutor in Law, Business and Sociology. Most of my tuition is in A Level Business.

I sat over 70 final exams for my GCSEs, A Levels and Law degree combined, which has given me plenty of insight into the best revision and exam technique methods. My revision focus has always been efficiency and targeted study. I have accordingly devised a number of learning techniques that maximise understanding and retention, both of which are key to acing your exams. It is these techniques that I incorporate into my tutoring so that students are able to learn and revise as productively as possible in order to remain engaged and avoid wasting valuable time that would be better spent on extracurricular activities.

Tutoring Approach

I offer bespoke lesson plans that fit your individual needs. Since we will be working 1:1, we will be able to get through the content much faster than is possible during school lessons. I can help with all A Level Business topics, as well as offering exam technique guidance along the way!

HOW DOES TUITION WORK?
We can either focus purely on the topics you would like extra help with, or we can cover the entire A Level Business course by starting at the beginning and working our way through each topic one at a time.

It takes approximately 20 sessions to cover all the content for the entire A Level, or 30 sessions if you would like to cover exam technique as we go along. You will also receive condensed notes at the end of each session that cover all the content you need to know in order to succeed in A Level Business.

Therefore, we will be able to complete the whole course in around 20 or 30 weeks if we have one session per week.

Alternatively, many students opt to undertake two sessions per week. This allows us to cover the entire two year A Level course and build essential exam technique skills in 15 weeks. I will provide homework and focussed further reading (approx. 2 hours per week) to aid your studies. The vast majority of students are able to absorb the content within the 15 weeks so long as they put the work in outside of our sessions and aim to get as much as possible out of our 1:1 zoom meetings.

By completing the course in 15 weeks, it gives us the remainder of the two year course to perfect exam technique and work on essay writing skills. However, there is no fixed structure to my tuition and I will tailor it to the individual student. A year 12 student may prefer to just cover the year 12 content (half of the A Level Business course) in weekly sessions. The purpose of tuition is to help each individual student achieve their goals, and so there is no one size fits all approach.

It is my aim that every student I tutor will achieve an A*, so the tuition is pitched at an A* standard. I do truly believe that any student – regardless of their starting point – can achieve a top grade in A Level Business and go on to secure a place at a top university.

EXAM TECHNIQUE HELP
Being familiar with the study material is of course important. However, exam success largely comes down to knowing how to apply the content to the exam questions in the specific way that the examiner is looking for. This is a skill that school teachers rarely divulge much useful information on, and instead offer relatively useless feedback such as ‘work on your analysis’ and ‘write in context’. My A Level Business tuition goes beyond these empty requests and instead familiarises students with the methods they must use to demonstrate key analytical skills in their exam answers.

Writing top-scoring exam answers is often far easier than students think. All that is required is an understanding of what ‘analysis’, ‘application’, and ‘evaluation’ really mean in practice. Through 55-minute tutoring sessions, my students build on their existing skills and writing styles in order to produce exactly what the examiner is looking for.
