I am an enthusiastic and hard-working tutor who has a positive attitude and a friendly demeanor. I have a Degree with Honours in English Language and Literature, focusing on linguistics and English literature focusing on Shakespeare, the nineteenth-century novel, twentieth-century literature, creative writing, children’s literature, and creativity in English. I have also enrolled English Language courses with future learn including; Dyslexia and Foreign Language Teaching, Exploring English the Magna Carta and Understanding Language. I undertook all of my studies whilst also working full time and carving a successful career in heath care administration. Balancing my academic and employment responsibilities has enabled me to develop excellent organisational and planning skills.
I am a qualified teacher with a PGCE in lifelong learning with an English subject specialism. As part of my course, I 100hrs teaching experience with the Oldham Lifelong Learning in the ESOL department. I taught an accredited entry 2 reading and writing course and a community run pre-entry English language skills for life course. I have also taught a 6 week pre-entry to entry 2 feeder speaking and listening course. I developed the schemes of work for all the courses that I have taught in compliance with curriculum best practice and quality targets. I have also been instrumental in dealing with the assessment and paperwork connected with the courses. Where the course was accredited, I prepared students to successfully undertake exams in order to maintain high success rates and marked the exams before sending them to the awarding bodies. I developed the schemes of work, lesson plans, and resources for all the courses that I taught in compliance with curriculum best practice and quality targets. I was also instrumental in dealing with the assessment, accreditation, and paperwork connected with the courses. The adults I taught were vulnerable, disadvantaged learners who are seeking employment and often had additional needs. I taught and supported learners in order so that they could achieve their qualifications and progress onto the next step. I motivated and engaged learners by using relevant resources, promoted an inclusive environment at all times and adopted the use of ICT to support and enhance learning were appropriate. Previously, I have worked at Blue Coat secondary school in which I worked as an EAL and English GCSE specialist level 3 teaching assistant. I was responsible for designing and delivering the EAL programme to support students who had English as a second language and English GCSE intervention programmes to students who were falling below grade C standard to help them to achieve grade C. I also worked with students with learning difficulties and low literacy both within the classroom and as part of one-to-one sessions. I have also spent one year teaching English as a second language in Italy. My teaching experience in Italy has enabled to make information accessible to people of differing ages (3-60) and abilities (starters to proficiency levels) through a mixture explaining, demonstrating, collaborating and interactive learning whilst preparing students for Cambridge exams from starters to CAE level and Trinity exams from Level 1 to 4. My duties also included being on-call which required me to cover a lesson of any level without preparation enabling me to think on my feet in the classroom. I also constructed course content and pacing and provide written reports on students’ progress throughout the course and a final report at the end. In addition to this, I participate in an Italian government scheme (PON) in which I go to various state primaries and high schools in the Puglia region to teach the students English. Through this, I was exposed to teaching larger classes of up to thirty students and have been given an invaluable insight into a different educational system. I aimed to promote independent learning through group and individual work and learner based activities whilst supporting the pupils through instruction.
I like to create a friendly and supportive relationship with my students. I take pride in planning my lessons and dealing with a heavy workload and find a great challenge in working to tight deadlines and a great attention to detail. I love education and enjoy personal development; I would thoroughly enjoy a job where there is continued professional development.
