Carl was employed in a learning support role working with pupils in year 5 and year 6, supporting learning and working on reintegrating the pupil’s who have been referred to Hawkswood and back into mainstream education. My duties and responsibility’s include daily tracking of the behaviour and learning progress, of the pupils that I support, as well as supporting the teaching and learning.
The pupils are supported through daily physical education and sports, to give them confidence and help build low esteem, whilst helping them to develop their own interpersonal and social skills.

Carl was employed as a special needs teaching assistant and worked on a one to one basis with two primary aged pupils, supporting literacy and working on reintegrating the pupil’s who have been statemented with ADHD, back into mainstream education. Carl worked with students aged between, 5- 18 years old across Key Stages 1- 5. His strengths lie in working with students with moderate to severe physical and emotional learning difficulties and clients with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. He also supports students enabling them to access the national curriculum through the core subjects and has worked within pupil referral units, supporting learning in small classes often working with challenging behaviour in a challenging environment.

Carl was employed as a special needs teaching assistant, working one to one and in small groups with a student statemented with autism in reception supporting his learning by way of creating a daily school routine and ensuring the student stayed on task, whilst engaging in focus activities such as literacy/reading and numeracy. I also was responsible for keeping daily records of the student and attending reviews, feeding the student’s progress back to SENCO, his parents and classroom teacher.

Carl was employed a special needs teaching assistant and works on a one to one basis with two primary aged pupils, supporting literacy and working on reintegrating and motivating one of the pupil’s who is statemented with ADHD back into mainstream education. In my capacity as LSA at Marner Primary school I have responsibility to monitor the progress of the students that I mentor. I keep daily records of student achievement, which I monitor, and use in feedback sessions with the SENCO and other teachers. I regularly experiment with the resources that I use to vary the learning experience and identify the most appropriate strategies for students to access their learning.

Carl tutored at the Core Arts College, based in Hackney, every Thursday evening, working in the Midi suite with students that have mental health problems, teaching adults how to use Logic Pro.

Carl tutored at the Raw Material Music Academy, based in Brixton, every Thursday evening, working in the Midi suite with students that have mental health problems, teaching them how to use Logic Pro, Garageband as well as teaching DJ mixing , using Technics 1210 turntables and on occasions Serato.

Freelance Music Tutor: Streetwyze Music Academy. Aug 2009-April 2010
Facilitating accredited music production courses, specifically aimed at NEETS and those young people at risk of offending or re-offending.

Workshop Leader: Mulberry School for Girls London. July, 2008/2009
Music facilitator for the director of arts at Mulberry to work with year 9 students to provide an introduction into Cubase ST music sequencer, enabling students to explore their creativity and produce their own music using this software. Carl is proficient in both MAC and PC music based software.

        Workshop Assistant: Escape Artists.                                     May/July 2009-2010

Carl has been involved with projects for ex offenders on a 5-week OCR accredited (level 2) Ensemble music workshop qualification. Which he found both challenging and rewarding also assisted a 5-day photography workshop with a YOT (Youth offending team) in the Borough of Hammersmith.

Workshop Assistant: WAC Performing Arts College, London. Dec 2007- Dec 2008.
Carl worked voluntarily, collaboratively with other teachers, assisting small groups of students with SEN. Carl also has experience of working in a multi sensory room, using software such as Ableton Live, so students are able to access the Soundbeam equipment. Carl facilitated percussive workshops to enable students to express rhythm and sound.

Workshop Leader: Kings Corner Project Kings Cross, London. Sept 2007 –Dec 2007
Carl worked on an 8 week course with 15-21 year olds, teaching all aspects of music software enabling students to explore their creativity and produce their own music through: Protools, Propellerheads Reason. Additionally I delivered a DJ workshop that teaches the fundamentals in beat matching and mixing.

This freelance post enabled Carl to develop his teaching practice with secondary school students in the responsibility of recycling of electronic waste. His position within the organisation was to support the project leader and deliver one-day projects in a work related learning environment.

Carl Grant planned and taught short projects that enabled students to create their own musical compositions using software such as Cubase, Logic, Reason and Garage Band.
