Online French and Italian Tutor

I am an enthusiastic teacher, with key experience in developing lessons in primary, secondary and adult settings. I am a passionate linguist and educator, who has grown professionally in the British Education system, starting in 2002 as a Learning Support Assistant for a seven-year-old pupil with Asperger, and persevering in attaining my dream to be a qualified teacher, while raising a family with a child on the Autistic Spectrum. I am familiar with the primary curriculum, and I have been successful in adapting teaching and learning strategies when delivering lessons for young people and adults, merging pedagogy and andragogy to make the class experience sustainable and enjoyable for all ages.
I was brought up speaking Italian and Swiss German, and travelled extensively with my parents at first, and with my own family as an adult. Living with a variety of ethnic groups has taught me compassion, has made me an avid learner, and a versatile educator. It has also offered me the incredible opportunity to refine my teaching and learning approach, based not only on the age of the learners, but also on the cultural mentality.

Tutoring Experience

I am a qualified teacher, who completed extensive training in primary, secondary and adult education, both in main stream and special education since 1986. I started in Italy and continued in United States, Czech Republic and India.
I chose the Qualified Teacher and Training route into teaching, following a Bachelor in Education, predominantly focussed in Psychology. I am interested in teaching and learning methodologies, an interest that was kindled by supporting my younger child, now an adult with Autism.
I am a passionate linguistic and deeply believe that learning additional languages not only devlops cognitive skills, it also helps to expand our cultural views and understanding. Because of this, I have worked over thirty years as a private tutor, along side classroom teaching.
I am trainend in literacy interventions - actively taught in the UK since 2002.
I trained with Ruth Miskins in synthetic phonics.
I completed three years training with the Veronica Sherborne school, focussing on neuro-developmental approaches aimed to multisensory learning.

Tutoring Approach

I am careful with the content of my lessons, ensuring that the content challenges the broader knowledge, including for example numeracy concepts when teaching languages, or scaffolding emotional growth when exploring topics with younger learners.
I am trained in the Ruth Miskin’s phonic program, originally known as SFA (Success for all) and in other synthetic phonics methods. I incorporate some of the strategies used in English with teaching French, when for example double vowels make one sound.
I have a solid knowledge of grammar, as I am trained as a translator. I have interpreted at international meetings focussing on education strategies for Autism and ADHD, and as a linguist the use of correct sentence structure is fundamental, besides avoiding “eating grandma”.
I have taught in PRUs and in institutions for young offenders, where I was trained in managing challenging behaviour from students and adults. I have taken courses in Neurolinguistics, Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language. The knowledge that I accumulated from continuous training has shown to be relevant in all the setting I have taught.
