I am a newly qualified teacher with experience teaching children between the ages of 4 and 11 . I want to become a tutor because I enjoy working with children and I find the progression from start to finish very rewarding. I believe that happy children are confident children, which helps them to become keen learners. This links to my teaching philosophy, in that I believe in building good relationships with pupils and inspiring their love of learning, setting positive teaching expectations for their educational journeys.
I have taught children in a whole class, intervention groups and one to one. I have taught across the National Curriculum and have had experience of assessing pupils using progression statements to identify their next steps in learning. Also, I have been observing tutoring sessions online using Zoom. From this, I have learnt about what resources to use and where to get them, pace of lessons and how to boost pupil morale through praise and patience.
I have a friendly and patient demeanour. For example, in my schools’ experience if a pupil provided a wrong answer, I always expressed to the child that it is good that they have tried and gave them a second opportunity to answer. I found that this created a motivating environment where pupils were keen to participate as they felt supported and safe.
