Hello, my name is Beth. I am currently an English trainee at a secondary school alongside completing my PGCE. I have also received a Distinction for Masters in Law (LLM) last year after graduating from the University of Birmingham with an upper second class honours in Law. I am extremely passionate about children receiving the best education possible; I realise the important opportunities that some children are deprived of if they fail to received a well-rounded education. I am able to act as a facilitator of powerful learning experiences, leading and nurturing students curiosity as they navigate their way through education.

Tutoring Experience

I currently teach English at a secondary school, teaching both KS3 and KS4, preparing students for their GCSE English examinations. My day to day teaching experience consists of preparing useful resources for students for both inside and outside of the classroom, as well as adjusting these recourses and plans to suit the needs and abilities of my students. I deliver and execute my lessons coherently, and in a way that students can have fun as engagement to the learning resources is key to their success.

Tutoring Approach

As a committed educator, my approach to teaching will vary depending on the needs of my student, as I believe it is important to adapt resources so that they are more accessible. I strive to instil a love for learning through my work, and a love for English. My strengths include essay writing which is a priority for students across secondary school, but especially for those in KS4. I work by breaking down essays into a smaller, more manageable chunks (known as PETAL paragraphs) as I understand essay writing can be a particularly overwhelming topic. I have covered a wide range of texts and authors including Shakespeare, George Orwell, Keats, Charlotte Brontë, Harper Lee etc. I have completed English Literature at A-level, therefore my knowledge and skills around literary devices and writing are extensive.
I am quick to adapt to the learner as I take the time to understand and familiarise myself with any learning barriers a student may face in order to overcome these. I believe that a students education is their key to endless opportunities, and I want to help facilitate with this.
