Bethany

Bethany

Bethany is an experienced and enthusiastic art tutor. She is also a Fine Artist working in a variety of media, including watercolour, acrylic, graphite, charcoal, coloured pencil, ink, pastel, mixed media and installations. A patient and generous teacher she hopes to inspire her students both young and old.

Tutoring Experience

I have been teaching for over ten years in various settings. I began working as a sessional tutor teaching adult evening classes in colleges and schools, I also worked for Hampshire Learning offering workshops and courses in Hampshire Libraries and taught for a Home Education Group, running a Pre-GCSE Class and 10-13 Year Old Class. I have carried out a wide range of workshops, working with schools, charities, children's clubs, adult groups such as the WI and art clubs, and teach regular in person and online classes. I have tutored both children and adults online and in person. Helping two mature students achieve places at college, one of whom went on to achieve an A with my continued support.

Tutoring Approach

I am currently available to teach online only.

My Tutoring sessions are personalized to suit the level, pace, and interests of each individual. I can cover a range of subjects and media to suit you. If you would like weekly, occasional, or one-off tuition then do get in contact. Sessions take place on Zoom and may also include email feedback/notes/resources as required.

One-to-one tuition sessions are ideal for gaining confidence and direction, learning specific drawing and painting techniques, finding guidance with a project or for students looking for support and suggestions in creating portfolios or achieving art qualifications. My aim is to help each individual improve their technical skills, enjoy their learning and gain confidence so that they can develop as artists.

We will begin by looking at a selection of your work and sketchbooks, discussing your ideas, where you see your work progressing, what you would like to achieve and how I can assist you.

I am happy to tutor/mentor:
Complete beginners who are intimidated by group lessons
Students of any age needing extra support
School / home schooled pupils
Students on a further/higher education course (college or University)
Students seeking help creating a portfolio of work.
Mature learners who wish to make a change in direction or enter education
Emerging Artists seeking creative direction and development
Artists who have creative block or who want to learn a new technique.

Adult Tuition

Joining a group class can be a little intimidating for many adult beginners, especially those who have not drawn or painted since school. One-to-One sessions can help you learn some technical skills and gain confidence with a patient and enthusiastic tutor.

One-to-One sessions are also perfect for those who wish to learn how to work in a new medium or subject matter, need more specialised or rigorous tuition on a particular subject or require assistance with a specific project.

The pacing, length and frequency of your lessons, are suited to you. Along with the art materials / subject matter and way in which you learn. I can provide step by step demonstrations, set weekly/monthly activities, feedback and critiques on your artwork, and wider art advice/guidance.

School, College and University Students

I can offer support to students of different ages (from 8 years old upwards) and levels in creating portfolios, achieving art qualifications or simply enjoying an after-school hobby while gaining drawing and painting skills. I am also happy to offer advice to prospective mature students.

I encourage Student’s independent study and can teach them both practical techniques and art history, to supplement their formal studies. I can help each student develop and improve their use of sketchbooks and project work and enable them to show their creative thinking more clearly.

I can demonstrate an extensive range of different drawing and painting techniques. Guide you through a project from brief, initial ideas, trials and experiments, idea development and final piece. I will also talk through how to annotate and present your work. When talking through a project I will encourage experimentation and creative thinking while keeping you on track so that you can achieve your aims.
