Maths and English Tutoring in Chichester

I am interested in learning and applying new skills and general knowledge, languages and teaching, and am a patient, enthusiastic person. I like to meet new people, am a good listener and communicator, and use these skills to establish good relationships both in work and personally.

I work well as part of a team, but am also independent and used to managing my own teaching, learning, planning for work and personal development. I am confident in my ability to achieve goals, help others to do so and use self-discipline to stay focused and be successful in whatever challenge needs to be completed. I consider carefully before committing to a task or goal, and ensure that I finish whatever I set out to do. I acknowledge mistakes and view an error as a part of the learning process. I view learning as an enjoyable, lifelong activity and encourage this view with my students, colleagues and friends.

Tutoring Experience

I am a very experienced teacher of 14 years. I have taught as a tutor, both online and face to face, worked with large groups, small groups and 1:1; with primary children, young adults and adults.

I have worked as a primary class teacher for children aged 4-11 for 7 years full time, and taught the full primary curriculum of all subjects.

For the last 5 years I have been teaching as a Supply Teacher in primary schools, moving to different schools and year groups in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, on a daily or weekly basis.

I have a TEFL Teaching English as a Foreign Language qualification with Distinction from the TEFL Academy UK, for teaching both children and adults. I have taught TEFL in a college, to small groups of young adults.

For the last three years I have also worked in the evening part time as a tutor both face to face in students' homes and also providing online Zoom lessons 1:1, whilst teaching in schools during the day.

Tutoring Approach

I am an enthusiastic, patient teacher/home tutor and I provide enjoyable, quality lessons for all students whom I teach. I support them to achieve their highest potential, using their individual talents and abilities. I take the time to establish effective relationships with my students, to build their confidence and help meet their learning goals.

I have high expectations at all times, and work towards progression using specific learning objectives and success criteria, which are clearly communicated, so that students know what their next steps are to be successful in their learning.

I believe that every student has their own preferred learning style, and I create, adapt and source learning resources to cater for personal interests, as well as curriculum or course requirements, in order to enable the best results.

I have current and extensive knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies, and am continually incorporating ideas gained from my varied teaching experience.

I am experienced in adapting teaching to meet the needs of each individual, in particular with use of differentiated learning methods, creation and sourcing of appropriate resources for all abilities and continuous evaluation during lessons to adapt my delivery, instruction and support.

I am accustomed to quick assessment via communication with a student, to obtain details of particular requirements.

I have experience of tutoring to assist catch up with their studies and attainment, for those who have fallen behind for various reasons in their studies.

It has always been one of my strengths that I am able to build a relationship of trust with those whom I am teaching. I am patient and take time to get to know individuals, in order to support them in the most appropriate way to promote their wellbeing, confidence and to achieve their best learning.
