English and French Tuition in Lichfield

Passionate about education, I have accumulated a lot of experience (formal and informal) throughout the years and can confidently deliver quality lessons and devise useful, creative resources to enhance learning.
Autodidact by nature, I am especially interested in neurosciences and behavioral psychology and I have built consequent knowledge and understanding of important issues relating to learning (change management, mental health, inclusive/open education, SEND, blended learning, ...).
Being a Belgian citizen, French is my mother tongue. I have also studied French Literature at A-levels and have been extensively tutoring French to a Y8 student during Covid-19 pandemic.
Growing up in a multilingual household (French/Dutch speaking mother and Scottish Father), I am perfectly bilingual (as proved by the completion of a BA (Hons) First-Class with the Open University).

Tutoring Experience

I have been a volunteering tutor (English) with Action Tutoring since October 2020, as well as a mentor for Brightside Mentoring charity for GCSEs and A-level students and I am also an Independent Visitor for Barnardo's.

I am currently studying a Master's degree in Education (Teaching and Learning) with the Open University. I have successfully completed a PGDE (QTS) French with Spanish at the University of Birmingham during the academic year 2021-2022, for which I was awarded the Elaine Hurman prize for demonstrating the most enthusiasm and expertise in the teaching of Modern Languages.

I have been volunteering as a TA/Day Supply at the SEND school since the late 2000 which was an opportunity to experience the challenges and rewards of teaching in a SEND school welcoming all neurodiverse students (ASD, MLD, SLD, PLMD, SpLD, VI, HI, MSI, PD and those grouped under the Adverse Childhood Experience).

In 2019 I have completed a work placement as a TA in FE - offering one-to-one support to students (16-19 years old), working with students with ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, dyslexia and challenging behaviour.

In February/March 2020 I have completed a Level 3 Award in Education and Training with City and Guilds, training in how to adopt inclusive teaching methods and approaches. I created and presented a micro teach which was assessed as 'well structured, exceptionally well planned and delivered [with a] subject knowledge of a high standard and the learners [...] fully engaged in a session which was very appropriate'.

I do also hold a QTS and an Enhanced DBS check to work with young people and vulnerable adults.

Tutoring Approach

In teaching and learning, it is essential to know the learner's aspirations, interests, preferences in order to offer the best possible learning experience. This relates to inclusive practices, differentiation and so on, a subject I am particularly interested in.

I have a strong inclusive, open nature, and I am always adapting to learners' needs, abilities as best as I can (getting to know them through informal conversations/initial assessments such as questionnaires etc.).

When delivering a micro-teach during the L3 AET program with City and Guilds, it was observed that in my lesson "the pace was good and there was suitable variety, challenge and relevance in the activities'. Overall, I was assessed as having 'a very good inclusive delivery style which makes learners feel comfortable, motivated, and engaged'.
