I have worked in education for over 10 years and have masters degrees in both Psychology and Education. I love kids of all ages and am passionate about teaching and learning. I know I can help your child improve their reading, spelling and maths skills in as little as 3 months!
I'm a trained teacher, consistently rated 'Outstanding' by OFSTED. I taught in inner-city London secondary schools for five years before becoming a full-time Orton-Gillingham literacy tutor (I currently have well over 1000 Orton-Gillingham tutoring hours under my belt) - a profession I love! I have also tutored primary school level and 11+ maths part-time for many years. Depending on your child's needs, I can provide literacy lessons, maths lessons or a combination of both!
I like to take a very positive, friendly and energetic approach to teaching, using plenty of encouragement and praise to motivate my students. Often, my students have had negative past experiences at school or suffer low self-esteem surrounding their academic abilities. I make it a priority to rebuild my students' self-confidence and love of reading, writing and maths. When a student enjoys learning, we nearly always see academic progress happen quickly and easily!
The Orton-Gillingham Approach is a phonics-based approach to teaching early reading and spelling, considered the 'gold standard' in literacy teaching. There is a wealth of research evidence supporting its effectiveness, especially for children for whom reading, writing and spelling do not come easily, such as those with dyslexia. Children of all ages can benefit from the Orton Gillingham approach. I have a huge bank of online resources and games which make learning fun and engaging!
