I am a kind, patient, and passionate tutor with over 10 years of experience delivering a broad range of English qualifications. As an English subject specialist with a bachelor’s degree in English literature and a master’s degree in creative writing, I support and help students towards their English literature & language GCSE or A Level. I predominantly work with students on the AQA curriculum, but I also have past experience with other examination boards such as Edexcel, OCR or WJEC.

Tutoring Experience

From 2012-2018, I gained vast experience within the further education training sector. In my position as an English GCSE and functional skills tutor at a popular sports college, I went through two Ofsted inspections where my lessons were observed as 'Outstanding' and 'Very Good'. I have also taught English to adults on work based learning programmes, supporting English as part of a wider apprenticeship. In these roles, I gained experience supporting second language speakers and learners who have specific learning needs. I have been a self-employed English tutor full time for the past 4 years and I have never looked back.

Working with individual clients to meet their English support needs, primarily supporting students within the UK on a private self-employed basis. Regularly delivering: GCSE English literature, GCSE English Language, A Level English Literature, and ESOL English. Designing course materials and delivering individualised sessions – face to face and online. Offering detailed feedback and lesson reports following every session. Offering group classes in partnership with the online tuition platform Tutorful. Monitoring all student progression and working towards an individualised learning plan.

Online ESL Tutor (Landi English) December 2018-August 2021
Working online to deliver timely sessions of English (25 minutes x 9 sessions per day) to students based in China. Using the online platform to deliver sessions and give an outstanding teaching performance. Achieved over 5000 5* positive feedback comments. Writing memos and class reports for every student. Designing and using physical and digital props.

Adult Education Manager (maths and English) - JM Education November 2017-December 2018

Managing the Adult Education Budget and the operations for online and f2f delivery across the Northwest. Managing a team of tutors. Compiling staff timetables, managing staff KPI’s and responsible for all HR and recruitment for AEB staff. Managing data and working from the PICS system to collate and analyse performance. Responsible for marketing and advertising of AEB courses across the Northwest. Ensuring all courses and delivery are of a high-quality standard, completing staff OTLA and ensuring delivery is in line with national Ofsted standards for ‘Outstanding.

Functional Skills/GCSE Tutor (English) - JM Education​ October 2015-November 2017

Delivering Employability, English, maths and IT functional skills to 16-21 year olds completing traineeships and apprenticeships. Delivering intensive functional skills training to mixed ability groups of up to 20 learners. Delivering bespoke tailored employability programmes as part of traineeship programmes. Ensuring lesson plans and schemes of work are created and kept up to date for all courses. Responsible for creating all lessons and resources, sharing amongst staff for best practise. Delivering courses at a grade 2 Ofsted standard at all times. Ensuring SMART targets and progress reviews are completed timely for all learners on the system.

Centre Manager/Lead Tutor - Potential4Skills March 2012-November 2014

Managing an adult education centre with capacity of up to 40 learners, all of whom are JCP benefit claimants. Managing a team of tutors, assessors and administration staff to ensure the smooth running of the centre and ensuring that achievements rates are maintained and exceeded. Delivering inductions and giving sufficient IAG to all new learners, registering and placing learners on initial assessments, diagnostics and enrolling on an appropriate course of learning in maths and English. Managing a team of tutors and working closely with upper management to ensure the smooth running of the learning centre.

I take a friendly, personal, and pastoral approach to learning, recognising the needs of each student as an individual. I strive to work closely with pupils to tailor their sessions to ensure they receive a memorable and effective learning experience. My sessions are carefully designed to ensure that specific areas of weakness are targeted in order for students to succeed with their exams. I am passionate about the power of language and literature, and I lead my classes with enthusiastic knowledge with the hope to inspire my students to fall in love with a subject that they may feel disengaged from.
