Hi, thank you for reading about me! I hold an award-winning PhD in English from York University, a prestigious Master's in English from the University of Oxford, and a first class BA (Hons.) in English from York University. I have specialist knowledge of and passion for English tuition and excellent written and oral communication skills. I am also a highly empathetic, dedicated, and hard working tutor who cares about the success of my students. I am eager to bring my care, commitment, and exceptional English skills to our tutoring sessions.

Tutoring Experience

As an award-winning and highly-rated Teaching Assistant in the Department of English at York University for six years, I have proven ability to clearly and effectively teach English across a range of genres and periods as well as design my own teaching materials. I also have ten years of experience as a private English tutor for secondary school and undergraduate students and adult learners. Additionally, I have five years of experience teaching young children up to the age of ten as a Daycare Student Teacher. Finally, as a creative writer myself, I have tutored adults in Creative Writing. I have excellent teaching experience through which I have had the honour to engage the interest and enthusiasm of diverse students and inspire them to reach their highest potential.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring involves building a working relationship with each of my students and then crafting personal plans for their success. I begin by actively listening to the students’ needs and goals and then, in collaboration with the students (and, depending on the age of the students, parents), work to meet these needs and goals with a plan for their learning. As an education specialist with ten years of tutoring experience and eight years of higher education teaching experience, I come prepared to every session with creative ideas and academic tips for my students.

While my tutoring sessions are academically rigorous, my tutoring style is caring and fun, helping to inspire my students to do their best. I care deeply about my students and their success. I am also passionate about English, and I bring this passion with me to every session, working to make the lessons both educational and enjoyable. In my experience, passion is infectious and students do better in a subject when they are enthusiastic about it.
