I am looking to tutor Maths and Physics at GCSE and A-level. I am also able to offer support for computer programming (in MATLAB) at all levels from children to university students.
I'm at the very end of my PhD in Electrical Engineering with Loughborough University, and graduated with an MPhys (Hons) in Physics with Theoretical Physics from the University of Manchester (one of the best physics departments in the UK). I've also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Antwerp. My research field is computational modelling of plasmas, and computational physics and engineering more broadly, combined with keen interest in coding. I am also a tutor in Physics and Maths both privately and as a volunteer.
Besides my academic achievements, I have a wide range of experiences in sports especially basketball: I've played at university 1st team level, obtained a coaching qualification which I used to coach mens and kids teams, and held leadership roles to help manage my university basketball club. I've also had a history volunteering in science outreach during university. I hope that my breadth of experiences in academia, teaching, sports, and volunteering will help me serve as a positive role model for young adults.
Currently in my free time I enjoy playing basketball, running, and cooking.
teaching experience:
- Private tutor since December 2024 teaching Maths and Physics A-level.
- Volunteer tutor at Action Tutoring, teaching Maths GCSE Year 11 via online tutoring at Parkwood E-ACT Academy.
- Mentoring younger PhD students whilst doing my PhD (3 years).
- Code Club Teaching assistant at a primary school in Manchester (1 year, 2015).
other relevant experiences:
- Qualified level 2 basketball coach, which I used as a basketball coach for both kids and university teams.
- U10 team at Cambridge Cats Basketball Club, 2017.
- 3rd mens team at University of Manchester Basketball Club, 2016.
My approach to teaching is based upon the idea that mastering fundamentals is key to learning more advanced topics, analogous to building a house with good foundations and good bricks. I approach my work with diligence and attention to detail, yet balanced with an ability to take a broader perspective. I continuously strive to improve my ability to explain, to break down complex ideas. Additionally, I'm a friendly and sociable person and can get along with anyone, and I use my inter-personal skills to help students build their confidence.
