I have a degree in physics and astrophysics from the University of Kent at Canterbury and a PhD in applied mathematics from Queen Mary College, University of London. I can teach A-level mathematics and physics, mainly OCR and Pearson (Edexcel).
I have twenty five years' experience teaching and tutoring A-level mathematics and physics in independent sixth form colleges in London. I have taught, both face-to-face and online, students from a wide variety of nationalities and backgrounds, and with a range of academic abilities. I have also tutored many individual students to help them prepare for the PAT exam. I have excellent subject knowledge in both mathematics and physics and can give clear explanations of difficult concepts. My long teaching experience means that I can help students tailor long exam paper answers to match the wording expected in mark schemes, something that tutors relying on their subject knowledge alone often cannot do. The lessons I give generally focus on exam technique and involve much practice with past paper questions.
I offer a relaxed, friendly learning environment. The focus is on guiding students, as far as is practical, towards finding their own answers to questions -- an approach that helps them gain confidence in their own problem solving abilities. My teaching is always appropriate to the ability level of the students, some of whom benefit from being given examples in physics and mathematics from areas outside the curriculum.
