I offer specialist face to face tuition for children and adults with literacy and numeracy difficulties.
I have knowledge and experience of a wide range of learning differences, including dyslexia, autism, ADHD, dyscalculia and dyspraxia.

I have an up-to-date enhanced DBS which can be viewed upon request.
I am a member of the Dyslexia Guild.

Tutoring Experience

I am a qualified and experienced teacher with further specialist qualifications to teach individuals with dyslexia. I have also have a level 3 qualification to teach individuals with dyscalculia. Most of my teaching career has been spent working with dyslexic and dyscalculic children and adults, for Dyslexia Action and in schools. I was a primary school Special Educational Needs Coordinator for 13 years.

Tutoring Approach

For individuals needing literacy support, I use a multi-sensory approach that is structured and cumulative, based on the Dyslexia Institute Literacy Programme and the updated Dyslexia Action Literacy Programme. The course draws on the work of Orton and Gillingham. The course is tailored to the student’s needs.
Advancement through the course is made at the student's own pace. Students are actively involved throughout the lesson. The level of work is planned so that progress is made while the student enjoys success.
For individuals needing numeracy support, I do some formal and informal assessment of their needs, then plan an individual programme of support. I provide a collaborative, sympathetic environment in which to develop the student's numerical understanding, using concrete materials, visuals and real-life examples. I have a flexible and creative approach that values the students' thinking, builds confidence and celebrates strengths.
