I am an English 11+ and Geography tutor. Known for a friendly, yet focused approach, I support learners through the 11+ process and public exams with measurable success; former students have gained places at schools such as St Paul’s Girl’s School, City of London, Putney High and Dulwich College. Furthermore, I have also served as a geography A Level and GCSE examiner for Edexcel/Pearson. With 19 years of teaching and tutoring experience, I have successfully worked with able students aspiring to top senior schools and universities. Having worked at Westminster, St Paul’s and NLCS, I understand the exams process and the standards required. My ocused, personalised tuition gives students the support they need to achieve their academic goals.
I have been teaching Geography for 17 years, in both the state and independent sector. I have taught English up to 11+ and maths up to 8+.
I have experience working in both Prep and Senior schools, from highly selective schools such as St Paul's (boys and girls), and Westminster Under School, as well as non selective schools such as Fulham Prep. This experience gives me a unique insight into the requirements of the 7,8 and 11+ entrance process.
I have an excellent subject knowledge and academic background and I am experienced in teaching and tutoring the following exam boards at A Level: Edexcel, AQA, Cambridge International Examination as well as the IB. I have taught both AQA and Edexcel at GCSE. Furthermore, I am an examiner for Edexcel for both GCSE and A Level, giving me an insider knowledge of exam skills and techniques. I have taught Sixth Form students throughout my teaching career, and have assisted in UCAS application writing and am happy to help in this area as well.
I have a Secondary PGCE in Geography from the Institute of Education, (University of London), a 2:1 BA in Geography from University College London, as well as my more recent MSc in Globalisation (Merit) from the same institution.
I have a relaxed and friendly approach to tutoring, but one equally focused on success. Ensuring a positive learning environment for my tutees, where they are engaged in their learning is a priority. I achieve this through adapting my tutoring style to meet the needs of the individual student.
My tutoring focus lies in building excellent subject knowledge, combined with an understanding of exam technique and skills requirement. My experience as an examiner enables me to guide students through essay writing in examination conditions, as well as share the expectations of the exam board with my student. I have a wide experience with revision and study skills.
Online tutoring is becoming increasingly popular, so if you are further afield I am still able to offer you a personalised one to one session. With the use of webinar (online meeting) software there is the added benefit of being able to record sessions to watch back at a later date. And it is free and easy to use. I offer a discounted rate for online tutoring.
