English Tuition in Clydebank

My name is Amy, I am 26 years old and I am a passionate and enthusiastic Primary Teacher. I grew up in Troon, but I currently live and work in Glasgow. I love to spend time out doors, on adventures and hill walking with my dog. Singing and listening to music always makes me happy!

Tutoring Experience

I have been lucky enough to carry out my passion in teaching full time for the past 4 years, after completing my undergraduate degree in Primary Teaching at Strathclyde University, receiving a 2:1. Across the past 8 years I have completed a wide range of courses and have experience supporting pupils with a variety of educational needs such as Dyslexia, ASD, ADHD, Makaton users and with EAL learners. I have completed vast training in Glasgow Counts - a numeracy and maths programme, designed to inspire pupils and ignite many light bulb moments! Children are encouraged to try different approaches and use strategies that work best for them. My personal strength in learning and teaching is through Literacy work and I have carried out a professional enquiry on how to encourage and motivate reluctant readers and writers. Over the years I have gathered a variety of successful approaches to eliminate barriers, thus helping pupils achieve their full potential in Literacy.

Tutoring Approach

Building positive relationships with learners is at the heart of my practice and I believe it is crucial in order for children to ask questions, explain their thinking and not be afraid to make mistakes. Therefore ultimately enabling them to become confident and successful learners. All pupils are different and learn in different ways, so it is vital that practitioners amend their approaches to suit individual needs. In numeracy and maths I would follow the CPA approach - Concrete, Pictorial and then Abstract strategies to help learners visualise concepts and make connections to what they are learning. There are a variety of strategies I use to support Literacy work, depending on the pupil. It could be support with spelling, chunking writing activities, story starters, decoding strategies for reading or catering topics to suit individual interests. I have been continuously praised by both management and parents on my ability to form positive relationships with families and I would intend on working closely with parents in order to put a plan in place that best suits their child and their needs.
