Online Tuition for English

I am an English Literature (BA) graduate, passing with upper second class honours. I have a PGCE teaching degree in English (secondary school) and have 3 years of experience in teaching in a secondary school in the UK with strong knowledge of the KS3 and GCSE curriculum. Currently, I am teaching English as a second language at multiple universities in France.

Tutoring Experience

I have worked as a supply teacher and had work experience within two secondary schools. I also worked at a primary school with Year 6 students as a paid full-time teaching assistant. My role as a teaching assistant consisted of taking out small groups of children and giving them extra support in the required subjects, mainly English and Maths. I have three years of teaching experience in a secondary school, from KS3 to GCSE.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring is flexible depending on the needs of the pupil and his/her learning style. Mainly, I believe in allowing pupils to think for themselves, whilst providing a positive, 'can do' attitude towards learning. I believe that as long as the pupil is trying, making mistakes is fine - mistakes are bound to happen, however, my philosophy is to build confidence within pupils so they can eventually tackle exam questions independently and ask questions if they are unsure. I tend to start with the basics and observe what the pupil is already confident with, and then build upon that towards more complex texts and questions. I personally feel that one-to-one personal tutoring is best as each pupil is unique with his/her learning method, which will allow me to home into the skills the pupil already attains and build upon more complex techniques . Most importantly, and the main reason I have chosen to become a teacher is because there is nothing more rewarding for me than seeing my pupils achieve; I strongly believe in creating a positive and fun atmosphere towards learning, in which anything and everything is possible.
