Maths and English Tuition in Clapham

Hi! I'm Ally; I'm an ex-Wycombe Abbey Scholar with 3 years of tutoring experience at the top level. I'm an entrance exam specialist (7+, 11+, 13+), and an expert in GCSE and A-Level English and History. I love getting to know my students and using my knowledge and experience to coach and inspire students to achieve success and smash their goals, whilst also making learning and studying an enjoyable experience. I'm really friendly, patient and my lessons are fun and engaging. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, baking, running and spending time with my friends and family.

Tutoring Experience

I have extensive experience tutoring 11+, 13+ and general entry exam preparation and have to date worked with 20-30 students sitting the 11+ in Maths, English, NVR and VR. Students I have worked with have gone on to gain entry to JAGS, Emanuel, City of London Boys, Downe House, Harrow, Putney High School for Girls and Woldingham amongst others as a result of excellent ISEB test results, individual school exam results and interview practice and preparation - all as a result of my tuition and input. As such, I am extremely familiar with the necessary requirements and syllabuses for these entrance exams and as an ex-Wycombe Abbey scholar myself, I have a lot of experience and knowledge when it comes to applying to boarding schools and the high standards required to gain entry.

I am also an expert in English and History GCSE and A-Level and I am often brought on by families to boost and grades and improve progress in these subjects in public exams given that I have a proven track record. This academic year I have notably homeschooled a GCSE students in English, supported a Charterhouse student who moved from a predicted 3 to an 8 in English as a result of our sessions together. Other examples include intensively tutoring an Etonian in History A-Level who moved from a predicted C to an A as a result of my input and tuition.

Tutoring Approach

My tutoring techniques vary depending on the student and a range of factors including concentration, understanding and ability to grasp concepts and ideas quickly, areas of strength and weakness, and learning style (visual or auditory).

I like to spend the first session gaining a really good picture and understanding of the student and where he/she needs help and then put together specific plans, schedules of work and practice questions to ensure that the student gets maximum value and feels completely supported throughout the learning process! A big feature of my teaching style is instilling confidence in my students to help them feel like they are in control of their progress and help them to achieve their full potential.
