Alister

I am a Chartered Engineer, and work full time as a Project Engineer in Aberdeen.

I am originally from Aberdeenshire; and now live in the Countesswells Area of Aberdeen, with my partner, baby, and small dog.

I graduated with a Masters of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Edinburgh in 2016; and before that studied Higher and Advanced Highers, including Maths and Physics.

I am most comfortable tutoring around the level of National 5 Maths & Physics; however, I am happy to consider a wider range of subjects and levels given my wide breadth and depth of subjects studied (including engineering subjects and/or Highers & Advanced Highers).

Tutoring Experience

Having two younger brothers (4 & 8 years younger), I have had experience over many years teaching as an older brother.
I have also led tuition groups for younger students whilst at University and at secondary school before that.

Tutoring Approach

I prefer to work with students to work out problem themselves; rather than simply show how to get to the correct answer.
While practicing many examples can be important in subjects such as maths, I also believe that ensuring an understanding of the processes and problem solving is essential to exam success.
