Online Special Needs Tuition

I am an experienced and enthusiastic Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) working in Lincolnshire. I am looking to offer my skills as a tutor to children and adults with special educational needs.

Tutoring Experience

I have 6 years’ experience of working with children and adults with Autism, Learning Disabilities and Developmental Language Disorder. This experience has been formative in developing my insight into how I can support you to achieve your goals.

Tutoring Approach

Appointments with me will be tailored to your goals. I am a strong advocate for starting with foundational skills to communication in order to enable further learning and development.

Tutoring with me will include:
- An initial 20 minute consultation free of charge, where we can discuss your goals and plans for the future (using SMART targets)
- 1:1 teaching that includes liaison with teachers to ensure that lessons mirror learning in class
- Reasonable adjustments will be made by making information accessible (e.g. using easy-read information, Talking Mats™, Social Stories™, etc.). These are specialist communication strategies that can be geared towards you or your child
- Appointment timetables
- Appointment summaries in an easy-read/accessible format
- Regular 6-weekly reviews of progress
- A summary report at the end of a block of tutoring

I offer tutoring in:
- Self-awareness and self-esteem
- Language and literacy
- Comprehension
- Articulation
- Relationships
- English Language and Literature (Primary level)

Please note that, whilst I will use skills and techniques associated with Speech and Language Therapy, I will be working as a tutor, not as a Speech and Language Therapist. This means that I can:
- Use skills associated with Speech and Language Therapy (e.g. Talking Mats™) to work flexibly and creatively with my clients
- Follow other SLTs’ therapeutic plans for input (but not develop my own) with their oversight
- Use programmes for developing self-esteem (e.g. Talkabout™) where I have received training (evidence is available for this)
- Tailor tutoring to subjects that are being studied at school (where appropriate)
- Discuss your goals and be honest about the services I can provide

I also engage in regular CPD; my goals for 2022 include developing my Makaton skills and my specialist knowledge around Autism - there is always more to learn!

Please contact me if you have any questions, or would like to book an appointment. I look forward to hearing from you.
