I am an experienced GCSE tutor and qualified medical doctor with an MBBS and MSc (Distinction) in Clinical Endocrinology from Barts. Before studying Medicine I attended Westminster School, where I achieved 12A*s at GCSEs and took A-Levels in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and English Literature.
I am fully DBS certified and registered with the enhanced update service.
I have over one thousand hours of tutoring experience over the past 5 years, and have taught students both online and in-person. I have prepared many students for competitive entrance exams and interviews at some of London's top independent schools, from 7+ to 16+ entry. Students of mine have gained places at leading independent schools including St Paul's Boys, Tonbridge, St Mary's Ascot, and Harrow, and current pupils attend schools such as Eton, Westminster, Winchester, NLCS, and Wycombe Abbey.
I have also helped to prepare many students for public examinations. I offer support with the Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English to GCSE level, and Biology to A-level. Many students of mine have gone on to achieve 8s and 9s at GCSE, and I have helped several students with poor predicted grades significantly improve upon these.
Having myself gained a place and graduated from Barts, one of the oldest and most competitive medical schools in the UK, I am able to assist prospective medical applicants with preparation for the UCAT (in which I scored in the top 12.5% nationally), personal statement feedback, and interview preparation.
I have also assisted a number of international students based in China and Dubai with applications to English-speaking high schools, and have experience with the CAT4 examination format.
Below are some references from parents:
‘V speaks very positively about her lessons with Alex and is thrilled to have gained a place at St Mary's Ascot. We are all very grateful to him for taking her onboard so close to the exams and navigating so smoothly through preteen moods. Will definitely recommend him to friends when they look for a good English tutor.’
‘We are absolutely delighted J got into St Paul’s Boys and so grateful for all Alex's help. J gained a lot from Alex's interview prep!’
'K got an A in Biology and is leaving Harrow for Bristol! He thoroughly enjoyed his lessons with Alex!’
‘G got an 8 in her Maths GCSE and is very pleased! Alex's help over the past year has been invaluable.'
I tailor each lesson to the individual student, considering their unique strengths, weaknesses, and learning style. My goal is to build their confidence by celebrating their progress and providing constructive feedback. I also challenge them by introducing thought-provoking exercises and encouraging critical thinking. I foster a two-way dialogue, inviting students to actively engage with me during lessons rather than letting them passively absorb information.
