Alastair

I am currently enrolled on a master's programme (MPhil) in Russian & East European Studies at the University of Oxford. Last year, I graduated with a first-class honours degree in Modern History & Russian from the University of St Andrews. Prior to that, I achieved National 5, Higher, and Advanced Higher qualifications all at grade A. My subjects at Advanced Higher were French, German, History, and Mathematics.

Tutoring Experience

During the first Covid lockdown, I volunteered with an organisation called Tutor the Nation. I taught GCSE-level French for three months.

Tutoring Approach

I am very passionate about the subjects I have studied over the years, so, as a tutor, I bring enthusiasm to my lessons. I believe in the principle of active learning. All too often, especially in a classroom setting, students simply sit back passively while the teacher does all the explaining, with the result that they often don't absorb very much. Therefore, I try to get students to participate as much as possible in the lesson.
