I am a passionate believer in student-centered education and ongoing professional training. Over the decades of professional experience, I have discerned that the key to success is an effective tutoring relationship. This is of course more readily developed within a one-to-one teaching context. A one-to-one tutoring collaboration is both professionally satisfying for the tutor and highly effective for the client. The simple reason for this is that it enables the teacher to genuinely meet the individual needs of the student in a way that can not happen within a classroom context.

Tutoring Experience

I have been a teacher for all of my professional life and have taught a wide range of academic subjects in schools, colleges and organisations. I was the Head of Psychology at Abingdon College for 10 years. I taught academic and applied psychology up to degree level to both young adults and mature students for many years. I have also taught GCSE religious studies and GCSE and advanced level sociology. I have also written and delivered numerous professional training courses ranging from various applications of psychology to driver training courses and for a range of organisations. For many years and until relatively recently my main focus has been host tutoring English and professional English to international students. English as a foreign language remains my main teaching focus but is now exclusively within a one-to-one, and primarily ONLINE setting. I additionally offer a range of social science subjects relating to my academic background - both online and directly face-to-face.

Tutoring Approach

My approach is fundamentally student-centered and bespoke. I specialise in ONLINE tutoring of professional English at intermediate level and above for European managers who need to use English more effectively within their jobs. Such clients benefit from directed preparation and the generation of specific examples that relate to their particular professional roles. This allows the online and directly face-to-face time to be a highly focused and efficient use of the client's valuable time. Clients can sign up for any course duration to suit their needs. For example, they may require a block of 10 weeks in order to develop a sustained improvement in their professional English or a highly intensive course over 1 or 2 weeks to prepare for say an important meeting, conference, liaison or interview. Each of the focused online sessions will last either 30; 45; or 60 minutes as required. Should you require me to travel to you, one hour or longer sessions would be the norm.
