Private Biology and Geography Tutor in Leeds

I love learning and indulging the curiosity of others is one of life's pleasures. My underlying passion has always been for Natural Histories and the sciences as a whole, and it is my endless fascination with the how and the why of life that have taken me around the world, to working for institutions doing essential research and reading Conservation Biology and Ecology at the university of Exeter. I will be returning to university in 2024 to undertake an MSc in Sustainable Food Systems at the University of Leeds.

Tutoring Experience

My experience in tutoring and educational communication has been fostered in three main operational fields. Firstly during my travels and post graduation I worked for a number of conservation charities and zoological institutions including The Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust at their base in Jersey, CI. Each role with it's individual operational goals but with communication and education being fundamental to each, and all in dynamic environments with no hiding if you don't have the answer!

The pleasure of taking classes of children and their teachers around the likes of Durrell's Herpetology Deportment, explaining natural histories, evolution and conservation and their enthusiasm for learning is one of my motivations as a tutor.
Secondly, during my time contracting in financial services I continued my development as an Operational Outcome Tester, Subject Matter expert and Quality Coach. While a world away from my previous roles in every capacity, the same fundamental need for effective communication and ability to relay abstract concepts with transparency and clarity was paramount.
Finally, after four years of corporate servitude I began working for myself. Initially as a Landscape Gardener and Project Manager, moving into Business and Ecological Consultancy. It's the relationships built and the families worked with over the last six years, particularly during the monumental disruption of the last few, that led me to private tutoring. Initially working alongside a close friend and long time educator as his researcher and supplementary tutor for multidisciplinary students needing Life and Earth Sciences support and communication coaching. I have now been tutoring Biology, Ecology, Geography and Study Skills for three years.

Tutoring Approach

I have an holistic approach to education focusing on the specific needs and goals of each individual student, not solely for outstanding academic results, but to also build confidence, drive and self reliance.
Spiral Learning Methodology provides the framework for my tutorial style as it provides flexibility with a consistent feel and structure to the learning experience.
Learning should never be a chore so discovering what motivates and excites is core to developing productive relationships and ensuring genuine understanding and appreciation for their subjects that can be referenced throughout their academic and professional lives.
