Fun, motivational, and effective lessons

I am Agnes Removed, a fully qualified and experienced German teacher, translator and interpreter and linguist. I offer German lessons online for children and adults.

I qualified in 2007 as a German and Art teacher for primary and secondary school children. (I studied in Hungary and in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany.) I have been giving private German lessons since then. I also studied German Linguistics as Masters, and am a qualified German-Hungarian translator and interpreter. Therefore I am able to teach German from complete beginner (A1) up to a very high level (C2). I can also help children for their GCSE and A-level exams.

I was not born into a German family, therefore I had to learn German from a complete beginner level. Today I speak on a level that is called "close to native level", which is the highest level that a non native speaker is officially able to reach. The fact that I had to learn everything the way most of my students have to learn helps me a lot with understanding the possible problems and struggles of my students. Also, as a non-native speaker, I have a deep understanding and knowledge about the grammar and structure of the German language, that an average native speaker usually doesn't have, just because they learned the language in a completely different way.

I moved to London in 2011 and have worked since then as a German teacher/tutor and a German speaking nanny. I have many years of experience in teaching children from the age of two and also teaching German to adults. My teaching style with children is playful with lots of games, singing, reading, and arts and crafts.

I currently teach in the German Saturday School in Greenwich and have also led a German play group in the past. Some of my pupils have German speaking parents - and they find the lessons a useful supplement to home conversation. On the other hand, I teach many children and adults German from a complete beginner level. The lessons are tailor made according to pupils’ current levels and goals. Since the pandemic the teaching is now online (using Zoom).

I love to make practical use of my arts training, and am very creative in teaching German to young children, using household objects, furniture, fruit, vegetables, sometimes even some easy cooking like making a fruit salad, pancakes or ice cream.

My approach:

"I remember how I disliked my German lessons as a child, so I always make sure that learning with me is fun, motivational and effective."

I am an Ofsted registered tutor and nanny and have an up to date DBS check.

Tutoring Experience

I've completed my German teacher studies in 2007. Since then I've been a German teacher and tutor. I've taught children from the age of 2 as private tutor, I've taught groups of children, I've taught groups of adults (I was working for several years for an IT company teaching their workers German), I teach more groups of children in the German Saturday School in Greenwich. Right now they are children 5-6 and 7-8. I teach privately older children as well, with them we are preparing for the higher GCSE and with some students for Goethe-Institut (international) exams. I have also been teaching adults and university students.

Tutoring Approach

Depending on the age of the students, if it is a little child, I love to make practical use of my arts training, and am very creative in teaching German to young children, using household objects, furniture, fruit, vegetables, sometimes even some easy cooking like making a fruit salad, pancakes or ice cream.

My approach:

"I remember how I disliked my German lessons as a child, so I always make sure that learning with me is fun, motivational and effective."
