Adrian

Online Tuition for English

Hi, my names Adrian, I'm married and have a 15 year old Yorkshire Terrier called Izzy. I have been a tutor of English since 2000. I've a strong interest in theatre and music but love to play guitar and sing. I co-ordinate two music festivals a year and run a weekly folk club, where I write songs and poems to entertain the locals.

Tutoring Experience

I have six years teaching experience in a secondary school - teaching Key Stage 3 & 4, teaching mainstream pupils but also pupils with Special Educational Needs and English as a Second Language. I also managed a summer school for our up - coming pupils.
From 2001 - 2016 I also worked as an AQA Examiner - marking the English Language paper, so I am very familiar with passed papers, marking systems and exam technique / approach.
I have taught privately and really enjoy the one to one lessons. I also find Skype an excellent and invaluable teaching platform as it allows the easy exchange of teaching materials and pupil input and also records and dates all materials so a database can built up and referred to later, if required.

Tutoring Approach

This tends to change with every pupil and from lesson to lesson. I have always been interested in, not just teaching but the learning process as this is as important in lessons as having a well crafted lesson plan. Being able to adapt to the level and specific learning requirements of a pupil is very much part of my approach. Being able to maintain interest and focus whilst keeping the lesson light-hearted and fun is also important but to understand that each pupil, as with each teacher, will have strengths and weaknesses, preferences and non- preferences and through this understanding find a common ground on which to give the lesson is central to my teaching ethos.
