Maths and French Teacher in Sevenoaks

I am an undergraduate university student at UCL, studying BSc Statistics, Economics and Finance. I have a great passion for Maths and Economics, which I want to relay to students through tutoring. My academic record is excellent, with maximum grades in GCSE Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Business Studies, and in IB Higher Level Mathematics AA and Economics. I am also a native French speaker and I attended a French school until my GCSEs.

Tutoring Experience

In secondary school, I was House Captain, leading and being a role model for hundreds of younger students. This taught me to work very well with younger students. Last year, I volunteered to be an assistant teacher for Mathematics and English in local primary schools, which was very beneficial in teaching experience. I also regularly tutor my younger brother, who is currently in his final year of GCSEs.

Tutoring Approach

I am all about regular and rigorous practice. Especially for quantitive subjects like Mathematics and Economics, I will first ensure that the student understands the key concepts, and then will immediately start practicing it, over and over again. I am a strong believer in learning by doing, something that I have experienced myself in my own learning journey. While I would like students to follow my proven approach, I acknowledge that not everyone learns the same way, so I like to initially get familiar with my student and find out the best way for them to optimise their own personalised learning.

For example, with Mathematics, here would be my usual approach:
- Cover the key concept
- Carry out an example
- Get student to try a question with support
- Get student to try a simple question without support
- Progressively increase difficulty of questions
