An experienced maths and Spanish teacher, SENCO, and senior leader in a mainstream secondary school. I have been working in schools (mainstream secondary, alternative provision and special schools) since 2013. I am passionate about maths teaching, Spanish teaching and supporting the wellbeing of young people. I am patient, kind and friendly and able to work with all types of learners, including those with additional needs.
I gained my PGCE in 2014 through Teach First and taught maths and spanish at GCSE level in east London (Mulberry Academy Shoreditch). I then trained teachers in Bangladesh through Teach for Bangladesh ad returned to the UK and trained as a Difference leader. The Difference program aims to reduce school exclusions by placing mainstream leaders in alternative provision. I worked as a senior leader at WAC Arts College in Belsize Park supporting students who were unable to access mainstream learning. I taught Maths GCSE and functional skills and led the Maths and English provision there. I then became assistant headteacher and SENCO at Mulberry Academy Woodside (Haringey) and obtained my SENCO qualification in 2022. I taught maths to SEN learners and led the whole school SEN provision and managed a team of teaching assistants. Since August 2024 I have had a year of travelling and volunteering.
I have worked as an Edexcel examiner online for the maths Foundation GCSE in 2019 and 2017 so am also well versed in common misconceptions that students may have.
I am a very flexible teacher and first try and understand the learning style of the student I am working with. I have experience with learners with difficulties such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, autism and ADHD so am also able to adapt learning where necessary. I have experience teaching KS3 , KS4 and sixth form (functional skills) so can work with all of these curriculums. My approach works from the basis of using the tools my student already has and spotting where the gaps are. Focusing on key numerical skills such as the 4 operations, number bonds and a general number sense we can work up to tackling the more tricky, worded questions that the GCSE utilises.
I have taught Spanish to KS3 and KS4 and primarily use a stimulus from the language to increase enthusiasm, such as a song, a music video or a piece of art. Through discussion and vocabulary learning I build students' confidence to start using the language with more fluency and confidence.
