Thank you for viewing my profile.
I am a full-time GP trainee having completed medical school and foundation training and soon to be a fully qualified GP.
I enjoy teaching all the sciences up to A-level, mainly due to a desire for continued learning and also inspiring the next generation of lifelong learners.
I gained my medical degree from Plymouth Medical School and have been a medical doctor for the last five years.
Having come from a working-class background, I am a firm believer that every child has the potential to achieve, but need the guidance and foundation to get them to that destination.
My teaching experience has been both informal and formal, varying from teaching one of my relatives the sciences during his GCSEs, to teaching medical students as part of a tailored programme and finally providing ad-hoc private GCSE science sessions for a tutoring enterprise run by a close friend.
The approach that I take and one that has benefit me in my own learning is the ability to grasp the foundations of a learning content. For example, in Chemistry one should appreciate each compound in the periodic table e.g. charge, group etc before attempting to appreciate them in reactions.
This is just a simplistic example, but should highlight that my approach is based on understanding a concept before attempting anything that requires higher learning. I take time to listen to a student's concern about a subject content and attempt to remedy it through a tailored approach.
I like to utilise the whiteboard in my teaching method as it encourages recall and visual learning. This approach has served me well in my own learning during GCSEs, A-levels and finally medical school.
