I am a professional artist and have a studio that is located in North London. My website address is **Web Address Removed** I have exhibited my work in London and New York, Please have a look at my website for detailed information about my career. My paintings and drawings are in collections that include the British museum, Wellcome Trust, and the Brooklyn museum. I have shown paintings and drawings in many major art galleries and museums. Recently I had a solo show of my work at kettle's yard in Cambridge. I have a deep understanding of the international art market and spent 20 years living and working in the States before returning to London (where I was born) in 2001. I am able to offer individual classes and workshops that are held at my studio in London or in some cases at your location. I teach because I love to teach. I have received 17 grants and awards for my work in the USA and in England.
I have taught drawing, painting, design and colour theory to beginners, foundation students, B.A. level, and Masters and phd levels since 1984. I taught at art schools and universities in the States that include; Parsons school of Design, and Pratt institute in New york, Minneapolis college of Art and design, and Long Island University. I Have also taught Foundation drawing at St martins, Camberwell, City and Guilds,The University of wales, and Kingston university. I have taught at the assistant professor level and ran drawing departments (see academic C.V. ON my website **Web Address Removed**). I am available to teach children and adults of any age.
My philosophy is that anyone can learn to draw and learning to draw can boost your confidence, my approach is to nurture your creativity. In beginning classes I focus on teaching how to draw objects from life and here I teach basic design principles and the nuts and bolts of drawing (line, value, perspective). All classes are accompanied by handouts and vocabulary lists and examples of other students and artists work. Sessions also include gallery and museum visits and lectures on art history and contemporary art. Although I have a structured syllabus for all my basic courses I approach each student as an individual and with respect, it is always my intention to nurture people's creativity and create an inspiring atmosphere. I can help you build your portfolio to get into art school and guide you with how to move forward with your work after art school. I also offer individual tutorials for those of you who are getting back to making work after having had a break.
