Personal Description:

Hi!

I`m Vas, short for Vassilis.

A couple of months ago I completed my Masters in Classical Acting at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London.

Prior to that, I trained as a professional actor in Greece for three years and had the opportunity to train with leading acting coaches in Athens, London and L.A.

I have worked as an actor and performer in Athens and London and I`d love to pass on all the skills and techniques I have practised in the years.

Teaching Experience:

Regarding my teaching experience, I have taught acting-oriented English as a second language (ESL) in secondary schools and IB programmes both in Greece and the U.K. I have also been offering tutoring sessions for ESL and EFL learners, Greek and piano learners for a couple of years now - mostly in-person.

Teaching Approach:

My studies in English language and literature as well as in acting and my so-far experience in both fields have properly equipped me to navigate successfully through various educational contexts.
My goal is to engage students in interactive lessons, often using a variety of techniques, methods and ICT equipment to create a rewarding learning experience. For instance, in teaching a lesson about Harold Pinter, I introduced my students to the notion of the "status" which is a typical acting tool and we experimented with it until I saw that they could form, experience and reflect on power relations fairly similar to the ones in the text we were studying (The Applicant, 1961).
My adaptability and my flexibility allow me to adjust my teaching practices and methods according to the needs and interests of the respective class, teacher or school. Being available to different kinds of teaching and learning programmes and curriculums gives me the opportunity to get out of my comfort zone, expand my knowledge and challenge myself into becoming a better teacher, while my improvisation skills help me deal with last minute changes or issues that might arise during the lesson.
What is truly important though is to be able to engage students in learning processes where they are the ones who lead, not I. It is my ability to rely on each student's potential, unique ability and skill in order to form the learning process and deliver the lessons I am required to deliver.
