Personal Description:

I have extensive experience of different photographic genres over many years with a particular specialism in wildlife, landscape and creative environmental photography. I have a first degree in BA(Hons) Wildlife & Environmental Photography from Blackpool and the Fylde College and an MA in Wildlife Documentary Production. I also have a PTTL's teaching qualification.

Previous to taking these courses as a mature student, I practiced location and journalistic photography in my capacity as Film Unit Manager for the London Borough of Greenwich, photographing on film sets such as About a Boy with Hugh Grant and the remake of the Four Feather with Kate Hudson and Heath Ledger.

I have won accolades in a number of prestigious photography competitions worldwide including the Big Picture Photography Competition - honourable mention, Royal Horticultural Society silver award for macro images of flowers and I was a finalist in the Natural History Museum's Wildlife Photographer of the Year Awards. I have exhibited in the California Academy of Science in San Francisco, Look 13 International Photography Exhibition, other locations in the northwest of England, London and New York. I have also made two short wildlife films which mix documentary with fictional elements in story telling.

Teaching Experience:

I currently teach a variety of photography courses and workshops at a prestigious further education college in central London.

I have taught at a number of leading institutions including Ravensbourne College of Media and Communication, Blackpool and Fylde College, Liverpool University and Cumbria Wildlife Trust as well as personal tuition and mentoring on creative photography. I have taught on nature photography projects with Embrace Cooperation Ltd for secondary school children and adults.

I can teach you how to use your DSLR camera plus the basics and more advanced tools for creative photography and documentary style projects. Complete beginners to the more advanced photographer welcome.

Teaching Approach:

I offer a 1.5 hour one-to-one introductory photography lesson to individual adult learners at the special rate of £90. This may be enough to help you get to grips with your camera and/or establish whether the teaching methods and aims fit. Also good as a present!

Please note that all individual adult lessons will take place in or near the Waterloo/Southbank area of central London.

I like to teach photography in a creative way. If they want to progress past an introduction, I like to help them develop their own style through a process of e.g. fieldwork, set projects and the study of other artists and photographers. They will start to see the world in a different way. It is a great confidence builder as well as a skills provider.

Comment from a previous student:

"Just a quick note to say thank you for such an inspiring and brilliant course… I have learnt so much, it's been a real inspiration to me." Sarah-Jane

N.B. Lessons must be taken within one year of purchase. Additional rates quoted for travel beyond central London.
