Personal Description:

I teach Drama, Voice, Public Speaking and Elocution together with a speciality in Accent Clearing for non-native English speakers or for native English speakers.

I am a professional Singer and Actor, working on stage, television, film and in the recording studio.

I trained at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Birmingham School of Speech and Drama, studied at the University of Salamanca, Spain and London University.

I have a full performing CV, from childhood to the present day, and I continue to work as an Actor and Singer in stage, film and television.

These days I teach mainly from home, apart from workshops given in drama and music colleges, from time to time. My house is very clean and tidy and I have no pets. I am a non-smoker.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for over 30 years and that has taken in a wide variety of pupils and institutions, from children to adult. I have taught in two London private schools, have run workshops in universities and had an extensive private practice, right through from child beginners to adult professionals.

I have tutored children through specialist LAMDA and Guildhall examinations in both Singing and Speech and Drama, assisted with national examinations and coached them for roles in school productions.

I now have adults taking the LAMDA Public Speaking Examinations with great success. There is an increasing emphasis in the workplace on presentation and speaking, they find the exercises and projects we do very useful for enhancing confidence and skills.

I have taught 'A' level Drama in schools and have recently taken pupils for the new Eduqsa 'A' level Drama examination (which starts in 2018).

Teaching Approach:

I am willing to teach Elocution and Accent Calming ONLINE.

My lessons are pupil-centered. That means that I am listening out for cues from the pupil, whether child or adult, in order to meet their training and tuition needs. I am always looking for opportunities to improve confidence and make the acted piece or text part of their life experience. I believe that the Arts should compliment and enrich our lives.

Clear speech is most important to us all - and good speech habits learned will improve the way we interact with people at all levels.

When it comes to Acting, as a teacher, I draw upon my professional experience, life and training, with a view to giving the student a deeper understanding of the text.

I strive to pass on any knowledge which will enrich the student's learning and end result.

I offer an effective use of the following, depending on the needs of each person:

Traditional Elocution

Focussing on articulation, diction and projection. This often accompanies public speaking or presenting. Please see below.

An additional area of this may be speech features, which make you feel self-conscious; these can be hurried speech, breathy speech, lisping or a general lack of confidence in your speech. Sometimes a traumatic event has impacted on your self-confidence whilst expressing yourself or using your voice. This is very common and it can be worked on with simple, practical exercises.

Accent Calming for Native or Non-Native Speakers

Bringing your accent into a ‘centered’ position where accent or regional features are softened and neutralised. This does not take away your individuality or your uniqueness as a person.

Voice Production for Presenters and Professional Speakers

You can learn to root your voice into your body to increase projection, strength, power and gaining clarity and individuality. We also explore ways of building presentations and speeches and engaging the audience.

IMPORTANT: Please note that lessons cancelled within 24 hours should be paid for.
