Personal Description:

I was a F.E art tutor on an Art & Design Foundation course for 12 years. In that time I supported/facilitated over 100 students. I have had a 3 year gap and I really miss the facilitating & the motivating . Witnessing 18 year olds develop, mature and sharing their enthusiasm for their art was frequentl**Contact Detail Removed**ge privilege.
I have privately supported GCSE , A'Level & Foundation art students, all of whom passed and improved their grades ( one achieved A*). Others applied and successfully received at least one offer on a further/higher education art course in the country.
I have volunteered at family art workshops for a local children's bereavement charity and continue to draw and make work of my own.

Teaching Experience:

The concept of a foundation year is to introduce an art student to a wide breadth of art disciplines and to teach them the critical skills of self-evaluation and reflection. Throughout the academic year I helped my students discover for themselves what it was in particular that 'excited them'. They learnt workshop skills from the technicians and our role as tutors was to help them find the 'elusive'; what did they want to say and why? through any of the mediums that most enthralled them or that was deemed by them to be the most relevant. Whilst teaching at the Here College of Arts I facilitated my students on gaining at least one offer at the University of their choice. These degrees were in a multitude of specialisms; fine art, illustration, graphics, photography, animation, textiles (constructed and printed) fashion, ceramics are to name just a few.
I have helped GCSE students pass and improve their predicted grade,

Teaching Approach:

I am a facilitator. I do not lecture but gently question my students in a way that enables them to discover what sort of artist they are and where they want to take that passion. I don't tell them what to do but rather ask them what they would like to do and then why? As part of the course we provided our students with guidance in both portfolio development and mock interview skills. I have many years of experience in this 'application' area. Many students would come back from university interviews with compliments about their sketch book and folios. We really valued individuality & self evaluation and I still believe this is crucial today.
