Personal Description:

I am an American, though I have been in the UK since 1981, I have worked in Military Intelligence, the World of Theatre (both Acting and Producing), and Teaching (by far the most glamourous, or at least most useful, of my three careers). I have directed/produced 8 musicals (contributing to many others as Stage Manager, Choreographer, Designer, etc.) and more than 30 plays (including one in German, with English subtitles) to full production (almost all of them in/under budget, most turning a profit), as well as acted/sung/danced in over 100 different productions (almost literally around the world). I have experience with film, TV, radio, recording studios, tours, repertory and life in general as a professional actor. Latest DBS: Sept 2017, member of Update service, Scottish Disclosure: Sept 2010.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught Drama, English and Sociology to GCSE and A Level in Mainstream schools. I am familiar with all the major syllabus boards (including IB). I teach LAMDA Speech and Drama grades privately, and these grades are now accepted as up to level 3 on the National Qualifications Framework, with UCAS Tariff points for entry into HE. In 2004 and 2007, two of my pupils used their LAMDA Advanced Level Communication Awards to aide their successful applications to Cambridge University. In 2012 a pupil used her gold medal qualifications to aid her successful application for full scholarships to Italia Conti, a stage school in London.

Teaching Approach:

I believe in the positive relationship between Teacher and Pupil, I strive to engage my pupils to think and discover for themselves, to become 'self-actuated' learners. I believe teaching, either one-to-one or in class, is like guiding students through a forest of information: My job is to point out the major trees, their usefulness, their entire environments (to get students to think of wider perspectives) and provide the freedom and security for my students to get 'off the beaten track' and explore a bit for themselves, before I re-direct them (if necessary) towards the goal to be accomplished, helping them to develop the skills needed to deal with what they learn along the way.
