Personal Description:

Hi. My name is Andrea and I love crafts. My inspiration and mentor was my grandad, who taught me to knit, sew and generally use my hands creatively. I specialise in teaching bobbin lace and all types of crochet, including: Irish, hairpin, broomstick, free-form and others. I am self taught, but have a high level of skill and experience. I also teach various aspects of textile mixed media art; embroidery, dressmaking, Tatting, Japanese fabric flowers and Japanese Braiding. I achieved a pass in City & Guilds Level 3 in Craft Design Embroidery. I am hugely proud of this :) I am a member of The Lace Guild and volunteer as a trustee on the board.

Teaching Experience:

I have a C&G 7307 in Adult Education and taught evening classes for Skelmersdale and Runshaw Colleges between 1982 and 1996. I taught dressmaking, bobbin lace, crochet, tatting and Christmas crafts.
In 1998 I gained a B.A. in English with QTS (Qualified teacher status) and an MA in Education Management and taught primary classes for 13 years until ill health forced me to take early retirement. Since then I have taught students in my home and have regular sessions. I teach individuals and small groups of 4 at home, and occasionally teach larger groups in alternative venues. I have taught workshops at Sunshine House Community Centre in Wigan, in embroidery and painted and appliques fabrics and , crochet at The Woollen Hideaway in Adlington.
I regularly attend courses myself as I am always wanting to learn new methods and approaches to the subjects I love; and also to learn new subjects.

Teaching Approach:

My approach to teaching is to have fun and enjoy the lesson, but always for my students to go away with a feeling of achievement and a sense of excitement as to what comes next! I strive to instil pride in work and inspiration and motivation to create new work. From my own perspective, I always feel motivated and inspired by my students and it is this that keeps me going! We learn from each other.
