Personal Description:

I am a lecturer at City and Guilds of London Art School. I have worked there since 2003. I teach on the BA painting and MA fine art courses (references from course leader available).

I am a practicing artist and my work is regularly shown nationally and internationally.

I have an MA in painting from the Royal College of Art and a 1st class BA(hons) in Fine Art Painting.

Ten years of lecturing at BA and MA level has given me extensive experience of teaching a broad range of ages and abilities. I am very accustomed to quickly identifying an individual students interests, strengths and insecurities. I can then help to broaden their knowledge both technically and theoretically and therefore promote the development of self confidence and originality of thought.

My main area of expertise is Fine Art Painting but i am more than comfortable with helping to develop ideas in relation to any area of Fine Art practice. Within my own work i deal with painting, collage/mixed media, video animation, digital image manipulation etc.

I have a very nice studio in Bethnal Green which i would be happy to use as a meeting point for tutorials.

I also ran a gallery in east London for 5 years that built a solid international reputation. I regularly dealt with well known collectors such as Charles Saatchi. I have a very good knowledge of the London art world and can provide guided tours of London galleries, from lesser known spaces in the east end to established commercial spaces and museums in central and west London.

Teaching Experience:

Teaching Approach:

I see teaching as an integral part of my life as an artist. It is always really rewarding to see a student develop confidence and progress with their own work. Locating and nurturing a students strengths whilst encouraging them to be brave and experimental in order to push forward into exciting unknown territory is how i naturally approach teaching.

I can help with all levels of experience and needs. From very practical advice e.g. colour mixing, how to stretch canvas, use of oil and acrylic paints and various mediums, use of different surfaces and supports etc to general tutorial advice e.g. help with statement writing (identifying appropriate historical and contemporary art, theory and cultural references) and general portfolio preparation for Foundation, BA and MA fine art applications - hints and tips on presentation, digital image editing, interview technique etc.

I am also very happy to provide any level of tutorial advice for artists who have recently left college or just feel a bit out of the loop and need some help in re-focusing their own studio practice.

I am very flexible and can provide a bespoke experience for most needs. So please feel free to get in contact.
