I'm a motivated and passionate Oxford graduate, who read Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at Worcester College. I'd love to be able offer my help in a range of subjects, and am keen to enable bright students to fulfil their potential, be it for entrance exams, national exams or university application. I live between London and Oxford, and am flexible with regards to travelling around these two cities.
I have successfully prepared children for 11+ Eton entry, all the way up to Oxford admission. I began tutoring in my area, helping students to apply for local schools such as St Paul's and Latymer Upper, until I took on more serious work as a freelance tutor for Allen and Jain, an Oxford-based education concierge. In this role, I successfully helped students with TSA and ACT preparation, as well as with A Level History coursework. I learned a variety of skills during this period, but I decided to focus on sourcing my own clients and teaching according to my standards. Since then, I have enthusiastically taken on myriad students between London and Oxford, and I can provide references if required.
When taking on a new student, the first thing to establish is a particular goal that the student would like to work towards. From this, a functional plan can be developed to make sure that this goal is realised.
My approach to tutoring differs between the various subjects I offer; for example, it'd be hard to conduct fully-spoken Maths lessons when investigating calculus, and likewise a Spanish lesson would be useless without some element of oral practice. However, a principle that joins the way I teach these subjects is that rigorous and profound understanding is essential for any meaningful study. In class, ideas need to be taught with energy and clarity of communication, and these then require consistent reinforcement, usually in the form of homework exercises. First time round, I was accepted at Oxford to study English Language and Literature, and as a linguist, I'm interested in optimising communication for the purpose of succinctness in dialogue when teaching. Depending on the end goal (an exam, for instance), structured practice of exam technique, as well as help with developing an effective revision strategy prove immeasurably valuable for students, and I believe I can offer this.
