Susan

Effective, friendly and professional! I'm married, with children and have a great sense of humour and bags of patience. I teach in schools and colleges, both as a class teacher and working with children with specific needs.

Tutoring Experience

I've been teaching in schools for many years and started tutoring when the head teacher asked me if I'd help coach his friend's daughter to get into St Joseph's. It all started from there, with those friends of his passing me onto their friends and neighbours.
My work has taken me into High Schools, Special Schools and grammar schools, teaching those with specific need and the gifted and talented who need stretching.
I also mark Key Stage Two tests and GCSE English papers - which help to inform my teaching.
I've had specific training for EAL work and Reading Recovery, which means that pupils who struggle with English and reading can be assured that they will make good progress. I also work with high ability pupils who aren't getting the input they need in class.

Tutoring Approach

I make lessons interesting and informative; I try to improve children's ability and their confidence; and help them to feel good about themselves and their abilities.
After discussions with you and your child , I will give a simple assessment activity and then work on improving areas of weakness. Each lesson is individually tailored to your child's unique needs, homework with invariably be given and a short debrief at the end of the session so that you will know what has been covered and how you may be able to support your child's learning.
