I am a naturally patient, caring person who is the mother of twins. I have lived in this area all my life, and went to university locally. At the moment, I am working in a range of roles within education. I have also taught dance and done supply teaching, one-to-one support/teaching, admin. work and many other things.
In my free time, I am an avid reader and always have at least 3 books 'on the go'. Of course, family comes first, and my children are at an exciting and wonderful age where we can explore and learn as a family, so leisure time revolves around their interests and hobbies.
I have taught since 2001 (qualified in 2000) in a range of settings, including for a training provider, in mainstream secondary and primary, FE, special schools, and tuition centres. Since 2007, I have worked for a range of tuition providers as well as for myself in tuition roles. I have also taught in a High Security prison; nothing much fazes me.
My qualification is in English (5-19 qualified) but I am equally competent at teaching Mathematics and currently teach GCSE Mathematics and Functional Skills Mathematics to Level 2. I also have an excellent understanding of English and English Literature GCSE requirements, Key Stage 2 English and Mathematics requirements and the EYFS curriculum. I have a great deal of experience of teaching students with English as a second or other language and have worked as a tutor to students working towards IELTS qualifications.
I work with many students who face a range of learning challenges, such as ASDs, profound and complex learning difficulties, dyslexia, dyscalculia, physical disabilities and more. I am more than happy to provide tuition which take fully into account the individual's needs, however complex they may be.
I also now work for an examination board as an examiner for GCSE English/English Literature and have an in-depth appreciation of how to gain maximum marks in each question on the exam paper, as well as superb resources to help your child succeed in public examinations.
I am, by nature, positive, caring and nurturing. I approach all my work with the belief that everyone can achieve their potential and that I can help facilitate that by developing skills, ideas, confidence and competencies. I think many students 'miss out' at school due to large class sizes and pressure on teaching staff to achieve certain grades or levels; for me, education is about the individual, not league tables and pay rises. I believe every student has a right to a personalized learning journey and should be praised for every achievement they make, no matter how insignificant it may seem to others.
