Online English and Entrance Exams Tuition

I am a graduate of three top British universities: Warwick, Birmingham, and Oxford. I am currently studying for a PhD at Cambridge.

At Warwick, I studied English Literature and received one of the highest firsts in my year. I then went on to specialise in the period of English 1550-1700 at the University of Oxford (St Peter's College). I was then awarded the Birmingham Masters Scholarship to study an MA in Shakespeare and Creativity at the University of Birmingham in association with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and was awarded a place to study a PhD in Renaissance Literature at the University of Cambridge.

At school, I was awarded an A* in both my English Literature and English Language GCSEs and went on to earn full marks in both my years of A Level study giving me an A* at 100% which no one from my school had every before achieved.

Tutoring Experience

I specialise in helping students gain admittance to the best schools and universities in Britain. I have helped students gain admittance to Tonbridge, Charterhouse, Westminster, Oundle, Benenden, Abingdon and many more top schools and typically cover any English or Verbal/non-verbal components of the entrance exams.

I began my tutoring career at Greene's Tutorial college, one of the oldest tutorial colleges in Oxford. Through them, and through companies such as First Tutors and the elite tuition company Canis Major Tutors, I have taught students from over a hundred countries. I am familiar with numerous GCSE and A Level syllabuses (including Scottish, IB, IGCSE and more) as well as the requirements for students sitting IELTS.

For three years I have taught English and the Arts with Oxford Royale Academy (both their 8-12 and their 16-18 courses). These summer schools aimed to challenge youngsters academically, and to prepare them for future applications to study in Britain.

Tutoring Approach

Firstly, from my extensive experience, I am able to quickly pinpoint areas of weakness and I tailor my approach to the specific needs of the student from the very first lesson. Though I know how to train someone for a particular exam I always aim to build genuine foundational understanding; this is particularly important for unseen or unpredictable exams (such as school applications) where it is deliberately hard to revise from past papers.

I aim to be as friendly and encouraging as possible with my students, especially when they are young or nervous about their work. I believe that a huge part of a tutor's job is to develop a student's confidence. It is vital that they should feel at ease and able to ask questions or to talk about areas of weakness without feeling intimidated.

Whether I'm teaching literature or language, I always aim to make my lessons fun and (if possible) to include texts and exercises that will appeal to a particular individual and foster a love of the subject. I am passionate about English and keen to make it accessible to students of any age.
