I’m 38 years old and live in South Wales near Newport. I recently achieved a Med (Master's degree in Education) One of key principles of teaching is that I enable learners to think for themselves and to think like an examiner would! I also am an experienced AS and A2 Sociology marker. In the summer of 2015, I marked over 873 A-level sociology papers and in the summer of 2014, I marked over 1,000 A-level sociology papers. By marking for the exam board, I can share my knowledge and experience to each and every learner who I tutor. I am also involved in the appeals process, by re-marking and double checking learners’ exam papers.

I obtained a 2:1 honours degree in Social Sciences & Sociology in 2009. I achieved my degree from the Open University and a PGCE in 2010 from the University of Wales Newport. I recently completed a post graduate certificate in Education, management and leadership and recently undertook a 7,000 word critical reflection into my teaching of the subject Sociology. At present I am a course leader at Coleg Y Cymoedd lecturing on courses ranging from introductory health and social care to Access to health and social care studies and Sociology. Recent my teaching observation was graded a one which was rated as "outstanding". I have also been involved in lecturing on the Welsh Baccalaureate assisting students with research projects and essential skills.

At Ystrad Mynach I have been involved in the organisation of new courses, new curriculums and internal verification processes. I have also been involved in interview evenings and open days and recently have sat on a committee that discussed recruitment levels. My five years of experience on the Access to nursing course has given great insights into the possible demands of this job.

My passion for humanities and sociology has enabled me to become an examiner for OCR, this summer I marked 800 A-level examinations in Sociology, culture and identity, meeting strict deadlines. Meeting deadlines and time management has become one of my most valuable skills, as over the last 6 years I have had to meet deadlines for my degree, PGCE and my role as course tutor at Ystrad Mynach where I provide management with all the required paperwork. Over the last two years I have learned many new skills in delivering sessions; my most recognized achievement has been encouraging all the course team to use MOODLE by training staff on a one-to-one level. In conclusion, I would like to apply the knowledge and skills gained whilst employed by Ystrad Mynach College and my studies to a role which I believe will help me achieve my long-term career aspirations within the subject of Sociology.

I am a confident and competent, highly committed self-motivated hardworking professional, and I am passionate about the subject Sociology. In the last 5 years I have had 10 teaching observations and achieved 4 grade ones and 6 grade twos. I have excellent communication skills and am very organised and methodical.

I also asked all 10 private students would they recommend me as a private tutor and 100% would recommend me as a tutor.
