Angus Fraser

Full time professional tutor since graduating from University of Birmingham in 2016 with MA in Contemporary History, for which I received a distinction. This entailed study of world history from 1914-date, and British history from 1780-date. Prior to this I completed a BA (Hons) in History at Open University, achieving a 2:1. The modular nature of this course allowed me to study a wide range of topics, from ancient Greece and Rome, through Medieval Europe to 20th century social change and the Cold War.
I represented University of Birmingham on University Challenge, reaching the quarter finals.
I live rurally near Bromyard, Herefordshire making it impractical for most tutees to travel to me. I will therefore travel to tutee where possible. On-line tutorials also available as an alternative.

Tutoring Experience

My tutoring began while studying for my MA in Birmingham as a volunteer with The Access Project, which assists A level students from disadvantaged backgrounds with one-to-one tuition in order to boost grades for university entrance. I found this experience so rewarding I decided to continue tutoring professionally on completion of my studies in 2015. I have worked with both A level and GCSE students, either at their homes or online, using AQA, Edexcel, OCR and Cambridge IGCSE syllabuses I work with both home-schooled students, and those requiring additional support to school lessons in preparation for exams. I have enhanced DBS clearance, arranged through work with both Herefordshire and Ludlow College and The Access Project.

Tutoring Approach

I have a great enthusiasm for history which I have always found to help engage my students. I understand the differing needs that individual students require, and tailor lessons accordingly. I work with students to aid their understanding of the key agents of change through time, and show how to filter information through analysis in order that they are able to develop arguments of their own. I believe that developing a clear, coherent writing style is key to success in examinations, and my focus will be to ensure that students can assimilate key information and express themselves articulately and convincingly in both essays and interpretation questions. I work closely with students to help them develop revision techniques that suit them best, and will assist in preparing a structure for revision materials. I can also provide general guidance to students preparing for A level coursework.
